Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how CDL Permit Prep ("the App", "we", "us") collects, uses, and protects information when you use our commercial driver's license (CDL) exam preparation mobile application.

1. Information We Collect

1.1 Account Information

If you sign in with email/password or continue as a guest (anonymous sign-in), we use Firebase Authentication to manage your identity. We collect:

• Email address (if you register with email/password)
• A unique anonymous user ID (if you continue as a guest)

You are never required to provide your real name, phone number, or address to use the App.

1.2 App Usage & Progress Data

To sync your progress across devices, we store the following in Firebase Firestore, associated only with your account's unique ID:

• Practice and mock exam history, scores, and readiness analytics
• Bookmarked questions
• Study streaks and gamification data (XP, levels)
• App settings and preferences (e.g. dark mode, selected state)
• Premium subscription / purchase status (see Section 3)

This data is private to your account. Our Firestore security rules ensure only you can read or write your own data — it is never shared with other users.

1.3 Question Bank Content

The CDL practice question bank is bundled with the App and stored locally on your device. It does not require an internet connection and no question data is transmitted to us.

1.4 Diagnostic & Analytics Data

We use the following Google services to keep the App stable and understand feature usage:

• Firebase Crashlytics — collects crash reports and diagnostic logs to help us fix bugs. This may include device model, OS version, and app state at the time of a crash.
• Firebase Analytics — collects anonymized, aggregated usage data (e.g. which screens are used, feature engagement) to help us improve the App.

Neither service is used to build advertising profiles, and the App does not display third-party ads.

2. How We Use Your Information

• To provide and sync your study progress across your devices
• To let you sign in and restore your account/purchases
• To diagnose and fix crashes or bugs
• To understand aggregate feature usage and improve the App
• To process and validate in-app purchases and subscriptions

We do not sell your personal information to third parties.

3. Payments & Subscriptions

All purchases (subscriptions and one-time endorsement packs) are processed by Google Play Billing. We do not receive or store your payment card details — these are handled entirely by Google Play under Google's Privacy Policy. We only receive confirmation of purchase status (e.g. "premium active", "pack_hazmat owned") to unlock the corresponding content in the App.

4. Data Sharing

We share information only with the following service providers, solely to operate the App:

We do not share your information with advertisers, data brokers, or any other third party. We may disclose information if required by law or to protect our legal rights.

5. Data Retention & Deletion

Your account data is retained for as long as your account is active. You may request deletion of your account and all associated data at any time by contacting us at the email below. We will delete your data within 30 days of a verified request, except where retention is required by law (e.g. financial records related to purchases).

6. Children's Privacy

The App is intended for users studying for a commercial driver's license, who by law must be at least 18 years old (or 21 for interstate driving) in the United States. The App is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

7. Data Security

We use industry-standard security practices, including encrypted network connections (HTTPS) and Firebase's access-control rules, to protect your data. However, no method of electronic transmission or storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

8. Your Rights

Depending on your location, you may have the right to:

• Access the personal data we hold about you
• Request correction or deletion of your data
• Withdraw consent for data processing (this may limit App functionality, e.g. cross-device sync)
• Export your data in a portable format

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by updating the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
